Holiday Homemade Cinnamon Roll Recipe

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! One of my favorite parts about the holidays is the traditions that we have as a family, and that includes making homemade cinnamon rolls every Thanksgiving morning. This recipe was passed down through my best friend’s family and has become a staple that everyone looks forward to each year!

Homemade Cinnamon Roll Recipe

Dough:

1 pack yeast

1 c warm water

1/2 c sugar

1/3 c salted butter

2 eggs

4 1/2 c flour

Filling:

1 1/4 c brown sugar

3 tbl cinnamon

1/2 c melted salted butter

Frosting:

2 c softened salted butter

3 c powdered sugar

1/2 c cream cheese

1 tbl vanilla

1/8 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. To make dough, dissolve yeast in warm water(105-110 degrees). Add sugar, butter, egg, and flour to water. Mix and then knead for 2 minutes. Let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Mix together brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. Roll out dough evenly into a large rectangle about 1/2″ thick.
  4. Spread melted butter over dough and sprinkle brown sugar mixture over the top.
  5. Then roll dough along the long edge and slice into 12 pieces.
  6. Place in a greased 9×12 baking dish.
  7. Let rolls set out to rise a bit or put in the fridge overnight. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Keep an eye on them. You want them golden brown but not overdone.
  8. For the frosting beat together softened butter, powdered sugar, cream cheese, vanilla, and salt.
  9. Once rolls are cooled cover in frosting. Put extra frosting in a bowl for when they are served.
